Need-based grants are the most sought-out forms of the State’s financial aid programs for college education funding, as they do not need to be repaid. Eligibility is based solely on the assets and income of the prospective student and his or her family. Factors such as test scores or athletic ability have no bearing on any aid designated need-based. Students must be aware that especially in tough economic periods, receiving free money for college will be highly competitive, so the sooner you apply, the more chances you will have. Remember the State of Maryland deadline to apply for many of the state financial aid programs is March 1st!
