The ACT® is a curriculum- and standards-based educational and career planning tool that assesses students’ academic readiness for college.There are four required components of the ACT – English, Math, Reading, and Science. There is also an optional Writing test, however, some colleges and universities require it, and some don’t. Generally, it takes about four hours to take the ACT (With opt-out of the Writing section), including a short break after the first two of the four sections are completed. The Colleges and universities that require this test, utilize it to make sure that you have the knowledge and aptitudes necessary to complete a four year college degree.
