Biiostatistics Program Description
The University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) proposes a Master of Science (MS) in Biostatistics. Biostatistics, one of the core disciplines in public health, teaches students analytical methods for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting scientific data collected in public health and medical research. This new master’s program will address critical needs in public health, biomedical research, and policy analysis through advanced statistical training. The proposed MS program addresses the
growing demand for biostatisticians resulting from the massive increase of health data and the need for experts who can analyze this data to inform public health decisions, and will also provide students who are unable to finish its counterpart
Biostatistics Ph.D. program (proposed separately but concurrently with this proposal) with an opportunity to earn a graduate degree in biostatistics.
