Health Science Program Description
The current Master of Science in Health Science-Physician Assistant (MSHS-PA) concentration consists of 30 UMB upper division credits taken over the course of two years in collaboration with the Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) Physician Assistant Department. AACC currently offers 86 credits for a total of 116 credits to earn the MSHS-PA degree. UMB intends to convert AAAC’s 86 credits from lower division courses offered at the 100-200 level to upper division courses offered by UMB. Combined with UMB’s current 30 credits, the program will meet a new mandate of the Accreditation Commission on Physician Assistant Education. The mandate requires that all Physician Assistant Programs award a master’s degree by 2020 that is awarded by the sponsoring institution eligible to grant the graduate degree and deliver all PA courses at the high level rigor, this change is consistent with the University of Maryland Baltimore’s mission and expertise.
