| Middle Grades STEM Program Description |
| The Bachelor of Science in Middle Grades STEM addresses the Maryland State Department of Education’s (MSDE) identified shortage of Mathematics and Science teacher for Middle Grades in Maryland. Middle Grades is a new area of teacher certification, and UMBC seeks to address these needs in STEM, an identified strength of the University. With concentrations in Mathematics and Science, this program will add to the other programs offered that will prepare candidates for teacher certification. The new degree program is designed to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and dispositions to become successful STEM teachers of young adolescent learners (grades 4-9). |
