Applied Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Program Description
The proposed MS program in Applied Molecular Biology and Biochemistry (AMBB) is being established to provide a unique and ideal framework for studying and understanding advanced concepts of biochemistry and molecular biology, develop interdisciplinary and integrative abilities in order to prepare competent professionals to solve problems in the field of applied biochemistry and molecular biology. This program envisions educating and training in applied molecular biology and biochemistry; such advanced learning will eventually help in developing molecular diagnostics. In addition, students will acquire hands-on experimental skills, which are required to test the principles governing AMBB by using advanced methods and techniques and instrumentation in biochemistry and molecular biology and biotechnology laboratories. The program will also provide opportunities for students to develop research skills (including critical thinking and analysis) as graduate students will be required to undertake thesis work in infectious diseases, vision research, metabolic studies in various tissues, chemistry of biomolecules, protein engineering, and cell culture methodologies.
