Social Entrepreneurship Program Description
Frostburg State University (FSU) is proposing a stand-alone Upper Division Certificate in Social Entrepreneurship, which will focus on 1) identifying new business opportunities with a
positive social impact; 2) realigning working business models to meet social needs; 3) marketing social impact to consumers; 4) making a profit while meeting a social need; and 5) turning a
non-profit model into a for-profit venture. This Certificate in Social Entrepreneurship is being proposed at a time when business professionals and consumers are increasingly aware of their business footprint. Given this awareness, modern organizations must strive to make a positive impact on the world while doing business. Additionally, organizations that operate while meeting a common good are more likely to attract a younger consumer demographic, and thus are more
likely to succeed and grow.
