Nursing Practice Program Description
Hood College Nursing is proposing the addition of a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. The program will be delivered online, except for the required practicums, which are in-person with a preceptor in a healthcare or academic setting. Students have the option of full-time or part-time participation and will be able to complete the degree in 4-6 semesters. The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), with a focus on Systems Leadership, will prepare <br>nurses with an MSN to advance their practice, knowledge, skill and ability to serve aschange agents, leaders, and evaluators in complex health care environments. The nurse with a DNP possesses a blend of clinical, organizational, economic, and leadership skills that are needed to design and improve the delivery of systems of care to enable a positive impact on healthcare outcomes, as well as the translation of research/new knowledge into practice. Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs prepare nurse leaders at the highest level of nursing practice to improve patient outcomes and translate research into practice. <br> DNP curricula build on traditional master&#39;s programs by providing advanced <br>content in evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and systems leadership, <br>among other key areas. <br> The DNP described herein is designed for masters prepared nurses seeking a <br>terminal degree in nursing practice and offers an alternative to research-focused <br>doctoral programs. <br> DNP-prepared nurses are well-equipped to fully implement the science developed <br>by nurse researchers prepared in PhD, DNS, and other research-focused nursing <br>doctorates. Students will have the opportunity for additional elective credits in <br>nursing education.
