| History Program Description |
| In terms of educational objectives, the proposed History major seeks to help students think deeply about the significance of social, cultural, economic, and political change over time, across both national and global terrain. This work is supported by a solid grounding in historical research methods. Learning outcomes for the major emphasize the production (that is, the research and writing) of a senior capstone thesis essay (21-25 <br>pp.) on a topic that is chosen by the student in consultation with their instructor, and grounded in original research in primary sources and detailed reading in relevant secondary sources. In addition, graduating history students give a 20-minute oral <br>presentation to an audience of their peers on their senior thesis topic. |
