| Counseling and Clinical Psychology Program Description |
| Upon completion of the Master of Arts in Counseling and Clinical Psychology,students will: <br>● Demonstrate knowledge of ethical concepts and legal issues and how to apply them in professional activities with individuals, groups, and organizations. <br>● Exhibit behavior and comportment that reflect the professional values and attitudes of counseling and psychology, including understanding of the role of supervision in applied experiences. <br>● Demonstrate knowledge of the evidence-based theories in counseling and psychotherapy. <br>● Exhibit skills in the practice of counseling, including use of the therapeutic relationship, case conceptualization, and use of specific interventions and communication skills. <br>● Demonstrate knowledge, self-awareness, and skills in working with individuals, groups, and communities in various contexts who represent various cultural and personal backgrounds and characteristics. <br>● Demonstrate knowledge of theories of psychopathology and relevant classification systems. <br>● Understand the purposes of assessment measures and exhibit skills in using appropriate methods of evaluation. <br>● Demonstrate knowledge of scientific methods used by counselors and psychology practitioners in their clinical work. <br>● Demonstrate knowledge of the role of work and career choice in peoples’ lives. <br>● Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the relationship between biological factors and human functioning. <br>● Demonstrate understanding of human development, wellness, and learned bases of behavior across the lifespan <br>● Demonstrate understanding of individuals in the context of their environment and how systems (e.g., geographical, ideological, demographic, familial,institutional) affect functioning. <br>● Understand the health and well-being elements of the United Nations <br>Sustainable Development Goals (2015). <br>● Demonstrate attention to issues of wellness and personal growth in individual clients, as well as to counselor’s own self-care <br>● Exhibit specialized understanding of community and military issues relating to mental health diagnosis, counseling approaches, wellness, and systems issues among individuals, children, and families. |
