Anne Arundel Community College

Anne Arundel Community College's 'Students First!' philosophy is visible from its state-of-the-art facilities to its award-winning programs taught to students in small class sizes by faculty members who are experts in their field. That focus pays off in student achievements: health professions graduates scored higher than state and national averages on certification exams, interior design and graphic design students won statewide awards, hospitality students took top prizes in national and regional competitions; students in Phi Theta Kappa honors society won national recognition; and the ethics team won first regionally. As a board member of the prestigious League for Innovation in the Community College, AACC exchanges ideas with leaders nationwide, as well as with local partners, to create programs preparing students to succeed in a global economy. The college's community outreach led to the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching naming AACC an engaged community institution in 2008. Its Parenting Center gears classes to the community, from middle school parents trying to guide their children toward college and to military families reuniting after deployment. AACC's new STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Center trains students for careers in emerging industries. Its Honors program allows students to work one-on-one with professors. AACC's programs train students to step into jobs created by the Base Realignment and Closure expansion of technical and homeland defense jobs. The college's agreements with four-year institutions provide pathways for students to continue their education. County residents can access four-year institutions without leaving the county through the AACC at Arundel Mills Regional Higher Education Center. AACC is a fully accredited, public two-year college that enrolled 21,752 credit students and 37,659 continuing education students in fiscal year 2008.
