Governor's Emergency Education Relief Fund II (GEER II)

The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act, 2021, funded through the U.S. Department of Education, awards supplemental grants under the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief II (GEER II) Fund to support and assist local education agencies, institutions of higher education, and other educational entities with emergency assistance due to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Governor Hogan allocated $10 Million of the GEER II Fund to community colleges and private nonprofit colleges and universities.

Community colleges received $7.4 Million of GEER II funding to provide workforce development courses and continuing professional education that leads to government or industry-required certification or licensure. It particularly focuses on individuals impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic through loss of employment.

Maryland Independent Colleges and Universities received $2.6 Million of funding to support institutional costs resulting from the COVID-19.
