Music Program Description
The College of Southern Maryland is proposing a new Associate of Arts (A.A.) in Music, the new degree will serve as an affordable and high-quality option to receive an education in music fundamentals, with an emphasis on transferring into a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Fine Arts, and Bachelor of Science (Education) programs. <br> <br>Upon completion of this program a student will be able to: <br> <br>1. Demonstrate their understanding of the elements of written music theory and analysis with its accompanying aural components. <br> <br>2. Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the variety of musical styles in historical, cultural, and global contexts. <br> <br>3. Demonstrate the ability to apply their musical knowledge and experiences through public performances in musical ensembles and/or student recitals. <br> <br>4. Demonstrate their progress as practitioners of their craft by developing their performance skills through private instruction and juried evaluation.
