VaxU Scholarship Promotion

This webpage includes information related to the launch of a $1 Million VaxU Scholarship Promotion, to help raise awareness and increase the number of Marylanders vaccinated for COVID-19.

The VaxU Scholarship Promotion consists of nine statewide drawings and offers vaccinated residents ages 12-17 a chance to win one of twenty scholarship prizes.

Winners will receive a scholarship in the form of a Prepaid College Trust or College Investment Plan from Maryland 529 to cover the tuition and fees for a public four-year college or university.

Individuals ages 12-17 who provided a Maryland address at the time of vaccination and have received the COVID-19 vaccine in Maryland not at a Federal facility are automatically entered into the promotion.

Individuals are entered once and, unless they win, remain part of the VaxU Scholarship Promotion for each drawing.

Between July 12, 2021 and September 5, 2021 two winners will be selected each Monday. On September 6, 2021, four winners will be selected.

Individuals may only win once during the VaxU Scholarship Promotion.

During the dates of drawing, Maryland Department of Health (MDH) officials will determine the total number of entries that are eligible for that drawing with each vaccinated individual anonymized by number.

For each drawing from July 12, 2021- August 30, 2021, MDH’s random number generator will select six numbers: two winners and four alternates. MDH will select twelve (12) randomly generated numbers (four winners and eight alternates) for the final drawing on Monday, September 6, 2021.

The following individuals are not eligible for the VaxU promotion:

Any officer, official, contractor or employee of MDH, Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC), or the Governor's Office who assisted in the creation of this promotion, or in carrying out any of the drawings, or such officer’s, official’s or employee’s immediate family (spouse or domestic partner, child, parent, parent-in-law, or sibling) who resides in the same residence as the officer, official or employee. In addition, the winner must be independently verified by MHEC personnel to be eligible for the scholarship prize based on information required to be submitted to MHEC.

Please read the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for more information on eligibility and specific requirements of the promotion.

Each Drawing is for a $50,000 VaxU Scholarship
